After a tiring week at work, with the weekend happily ahead of me, I often fantasize about a short, sweet vacation! Just a few days away from my hectic life, and this hectic world, in a separate bubble, where all my worries are invisible. And I think camping is a plausible plan! There is nothing more comforting or exciting than relaxing in a cozy motorhome while exploring the countryside. You never feel out of place, because these small motorhomes manage to feel like a home on wheels. Fill it up with your beloved possessions and it’s your home away from home. Not to mention the camper designs today are super innovative and inventive! From a Wolf Rigs Hummer camper to a Toyota Hilux camper that is the most rugged two-bed, pop-up roof overland rig you will ever sit in – these resourceful campers manage to cover almost all our needs, solve various problems, and make our camping experience a satisfying and comfortable one.
1. BR75
The BR75 SUV adventure camper, as it’s called, is a Toyota Hilux converted into an incredible motorhome for four people. Due to the Hilux’s extremely tested mobility and robustness, the BR75 is naturally the most robust truck camper you can drive to places that are out of reach for others.
Why is it remarkable?
Direct Cars has fitted a motorhome module to the back of the Hilux, without changing the mechanics or the form factor of the five-seater pick-up. Combining a full-fledged pickup truck and a motorhome, the Japanese SUV Adventure Camper BR75 becomes an all-terrain rig that will keep you cozy no matter how remote your journey takes you.
What we like
- Furnished with seats and a folding table, which can be transformed into a double bed on request
- Supplied with optional pop-up roof
What we dislike
- There is no reference to a toilet on board, you will probably need to bring a portable seat
2. GO Camper
The GO Camper is a lightweight towable camper that can be attached to any size vehicle, even a Mini Coop.
Why is it remarkable?
SylvanSport, a US-based outdoor adventure goods company, designed its GO Camper to support all the elements, while providing an accessible and versatile living space while disappearing a bit. Described by National Geographic Adventure as the “coolest. RV. Ever,” the GO Camper is a super-lightweight, towable pop-up tent camper that can accommodate up to four people.
What we like
- Can be attached to vehicles of all sizes, even the small Mini Cooper
- A gear rack provides extra space to store all the accessories that will maximize any camping adventure
What we dislike
- Not the best size for a family or if several people are traveling. More suitable for solo travellers
3. Emma
Emma is a caravan with a distinctive personality and is designed to make the scenic trips on the outskirts of the city more exciting. The trailer is designed with a glass door on the passenger side. Kuckoo will give adventurers an opportunity to customize the motorhome with a glass door on the driver’s side as well.
Why is it remarkable?
The glass sides of the Emma together with the glass rear window and a skylight in the living room, make this motorhome a joy for day driving. And if you enjoy sleeping in the great outdoors at a campsite, it couldn’t be better than relaxing safely inside Emma and still having a full, unobstructed view of the stars and surroundings.
What we like
- Excellent for panoramic tours and extravagant stops under the starry sky
What we dislike
- It’s still a prototype!
4. Campervan Raptor XC
This ingenious expandable motorhome comes with a pull-out expansion option right above where the lift-up tailgate would be. This makes the compact teardrop a full-sized caravan for a family of four. When the caravan is fully extended, it provides enough space for a master bedroom, indoor kitchen, wet bathroom and a large dining area. So we’re talking about the best of both worlds – the compact footprint of a drop trailer and the airy setup of a large caravan!
Why is it remarkable?
Demand for motorhomes has skyrocketed recently as more and more people fancy an adventurous life on the road for a fortnight or even a lifetime. This has seen an increase in the number of caravans in production as manufacturers try to meet the unique set of demands from customers who won’t settle for anything ordinary. The Campervan Raptor XC drop camper from Hunter Nature is another good example of a robust motorhome that has plenty of space thanks to its ingenious design.
What we like
- Loaded with BFGoodrich off-road tires in alloy wheels, and an independent suspension system to ensure a smooth ride.
- 160-W solar panels on top
What we dislike
- Designed to be towed with a Land Rover Defender or Toyota Land Cruiser – which can be limiting
5. SkyView Camper
Teardrop trailers have cramped interiors, and most travel trailers are built to look the same. Combining the advantages of a caravan in a drop-shaped form factor with artistic influence and space to accommodate two people in harmony; The SkyView Camper is set to be the little home after your car.
Why is it remarkable?
Inspired by mid-century modern architecture, SkyView has a modern form with a commitment to the best possible use of space. So, within a 143-inch x 76-inch space you get a well-designed and spaciously designed living/sleeping area for two people.
What we like
- Inspired by mid-century architecture
- Has a minimalistic design language
What we dislike
- Only suitable for two people
6. Mini Pop Bee Active Gear
Mystic has equipped this motorhome for off-road trips in a delightfully compact form factor that shouldn’t make you want to, even if you have to extend the road trip for one reason or another. Despite sharing features, the Mini Pop Bee Active Gear has a more integrated design than other similar truck campers on the market; it provides access from the back door, and is large enough to accommodate up to four people. This is done comfortably by turning the small cabin into a bedroom and a pop-up roof that gives more space to sleep more travelers in the fold-down bed.
Why is it remarkable?
Camping in nature is an experience none of us adventurers can resist. Therefore, the vehicle for our adventures should have the competence to drive in rough terrain and present a glamping-like experience. The Mini Pop Bee Active Gear based on the truck variant of the Daihatsu Hijet ticks all the boxes. Available in a 4-wheel drive model, the truck camper is equipped with rough terrain tires and suspension to take the brunt.
What we like
- Reasonably priced
- Choice of 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive models
What we dislike
- Old fashioned aesthetics
- No integrated cooker in the kitchenette. You must carry your own portable stove
7. Patton
Wolf Rigs calls this guy the “go-anywhere overland comfort castle”, after a good look at the pictures, I’m sure you’ll be left with little doubt. For any slight skepticism, the camper is a converted Hummer H1 designed to stream roll over petit RVs, thanks to its dominant looks and Humvee chassis.
Why is it remarkable?
This military-grade camper is called the Patton, and as expected from the looks of things, it has a shell and frame made entirely of aluminum; essentially to keep the weight of the vehicle as light as possible. On the outside, it may strike dominance with its beastly appearance, but on the inside, this guy has been groomed with the utmost care and finesse.
What we like
The interior is naturally lit with skylights and loft windows
Wolf Rigs allows you to customize the Patton with the installations of your choice
What we dislike
- At $350,000, it’s an expensive option
- Not the best motorhome for off-the-grid stays
8. Bailey Discovery D4-2 caravan
The Bailey Discovery D4-2 Camper Trailer is one such creation, tailored for adventure enthusiasts who can’t help but satiate their wanderlust – exploring the pristine trails. The USP of this caravan is its inflatable awning that creates almost double the private space you need for your escapades during the starry nights.
Why is it remarkable?
On the inside, D4-2 is equipped with all facilities and a fully furnished interior. Enough to cover the needs of a couple on their long road trip – with the odd guest along the way for a couple of days. The large windows on all sides and the skylight fill the interior with enough sunlight for a soothing feeling. The lounge area includes two sofas and a fold-down table. In the kitchen, you get a combi appliance with oven/grill, a retractable worktop extension and a sink. On the opposite side, there is a mini-fridge with space underneath for storing food and drinks. You also get the convenience of a shoe and wardrobe closet along with a separate area for closet storage. Of course there is a good sized bathroom too!
What we like
- Feels like a separate room
- Made of weather-resistant fabric
What we dislike
- The attached sleeping tent is optional
9. FlexCamp Off-road Camper Trailer
Designed for urban landscapes while exploring the countryside, the FlexCamp off-road camping trailer expands vertically and to one side to nearly double interior space. It’s basically a very simple trailer or pickup box that transforms into a four person micro cabin!
Why is it remarkable?
Given the German company’s prowess in developing robust, all-weather campers in the past, the FlexCamp is another winning design on the way. Remember that the boxy shape makes it perfect to mount on a pickup bed as well. When parked for camping, the 126-inch camper’s hydraulic system lifts the roof and extends the sidewall. It turns the camper’s height from 79 inches to 120 inches, and its width from 80 inches to 131 inches.
What we like
- Expands to the size of a micro cabin
- The drawers under the bed are accessible from both the outside and the inside
What we dislike
- The pull-out dry toilet is not the most comfortable option
10. Space Camper
Space Camper is the latest name to enter the domain of Cybecamper idealizers. This space has come a long way since Elon Musk said in the Cybertruck announcement that it would be accompanied by a trailer and its own pop-up tent, giving rise to a number of designs that imagine the camping version of the Cybertruck.
Why is it remarkable?
Equipped to take a pair anywhere on tar, gravel and boulders, the Space Camper is designed from aerospace-grade materials for durability. The wedge-style device attaches to the back of the Cybertruck without much fuss. It is located close to the road and can be pulled up to camp anywhere instantly.
What we like
- Designed from aerospace grade materials
- The caravan is packed with extensions hidden under the bed that can double as a table and seating
